I created this recipe as a refreshing alternative to soda and sugar-laden drinks. This delicious beverage is perfect for a hot summer day or can be served warm for a cold winter night.
- 2 cups filtered water
- 1 tablespoon ginger juice
- 2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lime juice
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- To make ginger juice, grate fresh ginger on the smallest holes of a cheese grater. Pick up dime-sized portions of the shredded ginger and squeeze until you fill 1 tablespoon.
- Combine all of the ingredients together in a large glass, mix well and then add ice and enjoy.
First saw this when mikekey reviewed it for PAC and knew I had to try it the first warm summer day and today was it, perfect drink following a long day of garden work. My two favorite flavors have to be the bite of ginger and the tart of limes - and this has both. I was worried the maple syrup would make it to sweet but not a problem - it was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks Mandi for sharing this great drink - bet it would also be good with a little added rum for company.
Really refreshing without all the sugar of regular limeade. Love the bite the ginger gives it. (I have a juicer, so while I was making some apple juice, I "juiced" a large piece of gingerroot). The maple syrup is just the right sweetener, but doesn't really leave a maple flavor. I think honey would also be good. Made for Spring 2009 PAC.
