My husband loves this! I use ground nuts as he doesn't always like nuts in things and I can be sneaky that way. I think peaches would be wonderful substituted for the apples.
- 2 cups milk
- 1⁄4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup chopped apple
- 1⁄2 cup raisins
- 1⁄2 cup chopped walnuts
- Grease the inside of the crock pot.
- Put all ingredients and mix with a whisk.
- Just before going to bed, turn the crock pot on low.
- The cereal will be ready in the morning.
- Serve with milk or cream.
I made this for my husband who gets up at 3:30 every morning for work, so I figured this was a quick and easy breakfast for him. He said it was good, but I didn't try it because it looked unappealing. I have a big oval crockpot and I think that this small recipe was too shallow in my big pot and it might have dried out quite a bit. but none the less, he liked it.
I really enjoyed this, but it was just a little too rich for me. I love the idea of making this in the crockpot and having it ready in the morning. Next time, I will cook it in water and add the brown sugar when done. I loved the apple and raisins and next time will add nuts too! Thanks!!!
for a better texture, try steel cut oats, instead of rolled oats or quick oats. use a 3:1 liquid to oats ratio and put them with fruit & nuts in your crock pot on low for 8 hrs (right before you to go bed)
