Caramel Crunch Apple Pie

"Looked good in the book! Haven't had a pie like this before, so I'm keeping this here for someone to try! Found in The Best of Country Cooking 1998."

  • Combine the ingredients for the topping. Spread into an ungreased 8 inch square pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes until golden brown. Cool, crumble, and set aside.
  • Sprinkle apples with lemon juice. Combine sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Toss with the apples. Place apples in pie shell. Cover with foil and bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake 35 minutes until apples are tender.
  • In pan over low heat, melt caramels with milk, stirring frequently. Remove foil, pour caramel mixture over pie, sprinkle with topping. and bake 5 minutes more. Serve warm.
