"I found this recipe in the first published addition of the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook which was published in 1930. It works every time."

• Yields: 5-6 pints

ingredients

• 6 cups blackberries
• 1⁄2 cup water
• 6 cups sugar
• 2 oranges, juice of
• 1 grated orange, zest of
• 1 lemon, juice of

directions

1. Cook the berries with the water in a large stock pot until soft.
2. Rub berries thru a sieve to remove seeds.
3. Return mashed berries to pot.
4. Add the sugar, juice of oranges and lemon, and the orange zest; stir to combine.
5. Boil until thickened. Ladle into hot sterilized jars.
6. Add lids and bands and allow to cool completely.
