- 1 (1/4 ounce) package yeast (regular or fast-acting)
- 1 1⁄3 cups warm water (105 to 115 degrees)
- 3 - 3 1⁄8 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (or butter, if you prefer)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon salt (omit if using self-rising flour)
- 1 egg white, slightly beaten
directions
- Dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Stir in 1 cup of flour, the oil (or butter), honey and 1 teaspoon salt. Beat until smooth.
- Stir in remaining flour, scraping dough from side of bowl, until soft dough forms.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
- Heat oven to 400 degrees.
- Divide dough in 24 equal parts. Roll dough into tiny balls (or form into ropes if you desire sticks.).
- Brush the dough with the egg white.
- Bake for about 15 minutes.
