This recipe is from "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". It is very spicy, so if you do not like a lot of spice, the amounts of heat can be decreased.
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon red pepper
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper
- Combine all ingredients. Divide beef into 6 portions. Shape each portion in the shape of a hot dog. Wrap each in plastic wrap and freeze until ready to cook. Cook in boiling water until firm. Remove and brown in skillet. Serve like a hot dog with your favorite condiments.
These are very good!
I tried this recipe and found it very dry.
This episode was on last night and I wrote down the ingredients, but the amounts were not stated if you were to use 1 lb. of ground beef.
The ingredients are:
ground beef, red pepper flakes, breade crumbs, brown sugar, chopped onions, nutmeg, cinnamon, chili powder, cayenne pepper, and an egg.
I found boiling, then frying the meat dried it out terribly, so I will grill the meat next time.
Big Mama also placed the cooked meat in BBQ sauce and served them on a roll.
I reduced the recipe by half, used ground turkey, omitted the chili powder and still they came out great. When we make this again we'll leave the hot spices at 2/3 of what's called for. Keep in mind to make these the same length as a hot dog bun and know your audience as these are super spicy!
