- 1⁄2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1⁄3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
directions
- In a saucepan, bring brown sugar, water, butter, cornstarch and cinnamon to a boil; boil until thick (about 2 minutes).
- Stir in apples; cook until tender (about 10-12 minutes).
- Serve wherever syrup, or a sweet topping is wanted.

This is my "go-to" recipe for any time I run out of maple syrup for pancakes or French toast. Originally found it in a "Taste of Home" collection from 1994 called "Cookin' Up Country Breakfasts." The only change I make from the original recipe (and as written above) is to double the cinnamon and add a bit of vanilla if I have it. This is really good over ice cream as well as a yummy filling for coffee cake or apple spice muffins.

As with all of your recipes Kitten, this one is a winner. We have so many apples on our trees, I've been searching out recipes to make. Made an Apple n Walnut Bundt Cake that turned out a little dry (I baked) and needed something to dress it up for company. So topped with ice cream and this syrup and whipped cream, went together perfect. The spices in this syrup complimented the cake great and as an added bonus my kitchen smelled soooo good while it was cooking.

Oh so good and easy to make. I made it this morning with the 5yo DD. The sugar bubbled even on low heat. I have one of those Pampered Chef apple peeler-corer gizmos, so the super thin slices made this get done in no time. Every one liked it, which is a first in my home.
