Homemade Flour Tortillas

"These are the tortillas I use all the time. I never by store bought. I love these. They are tastier and a bit thicker than the average tortilla. Very filling."

  • Combine flour, salt and baking powder in a large bowl. Cut in the shortening to resemble crumbs. Add the water slowly until you form a dough. Roll dough in 1 1/4 in balls. Cover and let rest 20 minutes. Roll each ball out on a floured surface and fry in a dry preheated pan about 30-45 seconds each side. Keep warm by placing in the folds of a clean dish towel.

  1. A very good recipe. Easy to work with dough & quick to put together. My only change would be to double the recipe next time. I made 10 tortillas but they were very small & very thin. Not like my usual homemade recipe, that produces a little thicker tortilla. The taste was excellent & the leftover ones, that after cooling were very brittle, we saved to use in taco salad. Thanks for sharing your recipe, multitasker!
