  • Lightly grease and preheat a griddle or skillet over med-high heat.
  • Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Make a well in the center and add the buttermilk, eggs, and butter.
  • Stir just until moistened.
  • Gently fold in the pears.
  • Pour the batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto the griddle.
  • Cook until the tops are covered with bubbles and the edges look dry, about 2 minutes.
  • Flip and cook until golden brown, about 1 minute longer.
  • Repeat with the remaining batter.
  • Serve warm with pure maple syrup or warmed pear butter.
