directions

 • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
 • Cream the Crisco and sugars together. Add the soda, salt and vanilla to the creamed mixture. Add the eggs, one at a time. Add the flour and mix well. Add the chocolate chips and nuts.
 • Drop by rounded teaspoons (or tablespoons) on a ungreased cookie sheet.
 • Bake 8-10 minutes at 375 (just until set in the middle, but not done!). Let cool 2 minutes on the cookie sheet before removing to a cooling rack.
 • **Add 1/2 cup baking cocoa for chocolate chocolate chip cookies. Try peanut butter chips or M&M's in place of the chocolate chips.
 • **IMPORTANT: Do not adjust the amount of eggs or shortening -- it will mess with how the cookie spreads. I have tried.

 1. I made these exactly as written, omitting the walnuts. They are excellent! Crispy edges with a very chewy center. I LOVE chewy cookies, and these are absolutely perfect. I got exactly 3 dozen generous sized cookies from this recipe.

*One note: For the 1st batch, I used a silicone baking sheet, and I do not recommend it. The cookies just didn't turn out right using the silicone sheet.

I am a 'Zaar addict. I spent SO many hours browsing and researching recipes. I love to bake and I love the fact that I can find -any- recipe here (who needs a cookbook?. I do cakes as a small side business -- wedding cakes being my fav. I used to teach cake decorating classes, but I am taking a break right now because I was feeling super crazy busy. I have recently lost 35 pounds through Weight Watchers (such an awesome program, so I am always looking for ways to lighten up recipes so that those 35 pounds -stay- off.
