- 1⁄2 medium yellow onion, roughly chopped
- 1 tablespoon garlic, chopped
- 2 (15 ounce) cans black beans, rinsed and drained, divided
- 2 tablespoons cilantro leaves, freshly chopped
- 2 teaspoons fresh parsley leaves, freshly chopped
- 1 egg
- 1⁄2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1⁄2 cup breadcrumbs
- salt and black pepper
directions
- Heat a grill between low to medium-low heat.
- In a food processor, pulse onion and garlic until finely chopped. Add 1 can of drained black beans, cilantro, parsley, egg, and red pepper flakes and pulse to combine.
- Transfer mixture to a large bowl, add the remaining can of drained black beans and the bread crumbs. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and mix until well combined.
- Divide mixture into 4 portions and form into patties. Place on hot oiled grill over low to medium-low heat and cook about 6 minutes on each side or until heated through.

A very nice recipe. Easy to make. Can handle variations. HOWEVER, the calorie count is WAY off. Black beans are only 210 calories per 30 ounces, not 1122.7 as shown in the detailed nutrition facts. Soft bread crumbs are 120 per cup, not 213.3. Please correct this! This is especially good with a few drops of liquid smoke mixed in. Serve with pickles, lettuce and barbecue sauce. Very filling, regardless.
