Ruth's Salad Dressing

"This is a great Thousand Island Dressing that I clipped out of the paper a long time ago. Not for dieters. I think the sour cream makes the difference."

  1. EXCELLENT flavor! This recipe has the ingredients that all of us normally have in our pantry. I put a smaller amount of onion than suggested. The sour cream gives it a small amount of sharpness that I enjoyed. Will have again. Thanks Mary for sharing. Prepared as a participant in Aus/NZ 2008 Swap #15.

  2. My husband and I enjoyed this delicious dressing on our salad. Very easy to make and made as written. Made for Jan. Tag game. Thanks Mary Winecoff. Bullwinkle

  3. A truly wordeful dressing! I made one serving, just for myself and so I added: 1 green onion, 1tbsp sour cream, 1tbsp mayo, 1/2 tbsp olive oil, 1/2 tbsp vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon ketsup and the flavorings to my taste. Served it over a bed of lettuce and arugula. Spicy enough from the vinegar, the mayo and the pepper, it woul be perfect with broiled vegetables or with fried potatoes! Simply wordeful and low fat, just 210 calories for my lunch! Thanks for sharing!

  4. OK, I will admit I made a test batch with smaller proportions first...and found it was a bit too oily & oniony for our tastes. I made it again with a bit extra low fat mayo and sour cream and only 1/4 cup of oil. Plus, I used green onions as they're a bit milder here. It was very good on the shrimp louies we had, and the celery salt was a component missing in others I've tried.

I have two boys who will usually eat most things I put in front of them. As a single mom I use them as my guinea pigs....sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have a huge garden, blueberry and blackberry bushes. I am always looking for a new recipe. I have three cats (Xiao Mao, which means little cat in Chinese, Pumpkin and Max) and two border collies, Lucy and Grace. All my animals come from Rescue Agencies. <a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=rsc002.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/rsc002.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/lucyatpoppys005.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"><a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=006.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/006.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=hilfiger001.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/hilfiger001.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">
