- 16 ounces potatoes, boiled, and mashed
- 12 ounces cabbage, finely shredded
- 1 large white onion, sliced finely
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup white cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg, grated
directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Boil and mash potatoes, and set aside.
- Shred cabbage and slice onion, set aside.
- Place butter in a frying pan and set on high heat and melt.
- Add the cabbage and sliced onion,and turn so that the cabbage and onion are coated evenly, and leave till both are wilted; but not burned.
- Add roughly half the cheese and all the potatoes, stirring so that everything is incorporated.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Place in a corningware serving dish and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
- Sprinkle nutmeg over the top.
- Place in a hot oven and bake until the cheese has melted and is golden brown on top.
- Serve immediately.
