Potato Salad

"I made this up over the years, using various tips and techniques that people have given - all around the world - Australia, Germany and the US. Most people seem to like it, but this is one of those dishes where everyone makes it "the best". So let me just say, I like it and generally won't eat any other. Mmmm! Isn't that what I said in a previous sentence?"

  1. Very good recipe, works well as a platform to be tweaked as needed.a little celery seed, a little wasabi. Big hit at the tailgater !!!

  2. Both DH and I thought this was just OK. We prefer either having a true German potato salad or an American potato salad but not mixed together. I also decreased the amount of milk/vinegar because it was getting to soupy. I had to add lots of mayonnaise to try and thicken it up. I sprinkled mine with cayenne peppers. Thanks for letting me try your recipe. :)

  3. I enjoyed this potato salad and so did my daughter and her friend! I did make some adjustments-I doubled the potatoes, but only used the 1/2 cup milk and 1/4 cup vinegar. The salad was a little bit vinagery for me, so next time, would cut the vinegar back even more. I also only used the 2 tbls. mustard and opted for the paprika. Added a little celery. All in all, a very nice potato salad. Thanks Kayne!

I originally joined the site as "aussiekarin", but decided instead to go with my nickname - Kayne. Sorry if this causes any confusion! I moved to the US from Australia in 1970, and apart from three years in Germanyhave been here the whole time. However, still consider myself an Australian, although I was actually born in Holland. Since I come from such a diversified background, my cooking is rather strange at times. Many times it is a combiniation of Dutch, Aussie / English, German and American. I'm not really much of a cook, but enjoy it, nevertheless. I just wish I knew more and could do more - without a recipe! I'm retired now, so one of my goals is to really learn to cook. I intend to enjoy my retirement, doing what I never had time to do before. Since joining Recipezaar in November, 2006, I find that my cooking has changed somewhat. I'm more adventurous, willing to try new and more varied tastes, and combinations, and just about all of what I prepare is edible. Lately, due to a major life change, I've been letting my cooking go, but hopefully that will change one day. Oddly, I miss it, more than I ever thought I would!!!!!
