This is one of my favorite salads and this Easter I made it myself with this recipe. I drained the pineapple and added 1/4 of the liquid to the gelatin mixture. I knew something was wrong right from the beginning -- and later figured out the liquids should have been around 6 cups. This recipe called for barely 3 cups. Needless to say, I threw the liquid from the pineapple away because the recipe did not say to use it (I only used 1/4 cup). This jello salad was so firm that it was uneatable! Further, I cannot see any reason for draining the pineapple and then adding it into the jello. :(

This recipe has special meaning in our family as well, it was also my Grandmothers recipe. It is also a staple in our family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. But the only thing we do not put in it, is the nuts, which I just may have to try! When my husband first tried this recipe about 21 years ago he wasn't too sure about it but he always looks forward to when it is being served at a family get together. Thank you for posting!
