  1. This is green bean heaven! We love the combination of ham and green beans. Adding onions and garlic and cooking them in a small amount of liquid and butter is sensational. The only thing I would do different, is to serve this as a main course and the only course !!! Thanks, Inez.

  2. This was so easy to make, yet very elagant to serve at a formal dinner. The only change, I used frozen green beans. I will be making this alot.

  3. My family rates this six thumbs up! I used bacon instead of ham and added some extra black pepper before serving. Delicious. I kept it simmering for an extra hour by adding more water when it needed it. Thanks for posting this keeper.

  4. I often make green beans and ham, but never thought to add butter. It really adds a new dimension and it was buttery deliciousness.

  5. This exact recipe is on Allrecipes.com. Several of the comments there recommended that chicken broth should be substituted for the water the recipe calls for. I took their advice and the results were great. My son says that these are the best green beans he's ever had in all his 33 years.

  1. Great and fast! That's all I need. Made this for my green bean lover 13 month old girl. I used turkey breast instead of ham as I don't typically have cooked ham around. We loved it!

After DH and I moved away from the farm, and to the city...I haven't done as much cooking and very little canning. But I do come to Zaar and look for new recipes once in a while. I'm still cooking Zaar!! I like to play at Facebook, with my family and friends. A lot of my Zaar friends are there!! Yay! It's a good way to keep in touch. We travel more. We're looking at the European trips now. Hope to go in the springtime. I really want to see London, I think I lived there in a past life, I've been obsessed with it since I was 10 years old!!
