Chocolate Turtle Brownies

"I got this recipe from the label on a baking sheet and wanted someplace to keep it safe. We tried it and it was very yummy. The caramel and nuts are in the middle instead of on top which is different than most brownies like this. It seems like a lot of steps but they are quite easy to make."

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Grease an 8" square pan.
  • Combine flour, cocoa and salt in a small bowl.
  • Beat butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl until creamy.
  • Add 2 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Add vanilla extract, mix well.
  • Gradually beat in flour mixture.
  • Reserve 3/4 cup of batter.
  • Spread remaining batter in prepared baking pan.
  • Sprinkle white chocolate chips and nuts over batter.
  • Drizzle caramel topping over top.
  • Beat remaining egg and reserved batter in same large bowl until light in colour.
  • Stir in semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • Spread evenly over caramel topping.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until centre is set.
  • Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
  • Cut into squares.
