directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F Line a 13x9x2 baking pan with aluminum foil, letting foil extend 2 inches beyond each short side of pan.
  • In large bowl, whisk together stout and cocoa powder until blended and smooth. Whisk in sugar, butter, vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time. Blend well.
  • Add flour and salt; whisk until batter is smooth. Stir in chocolate chips. Spread mixture in prepared pan, leveling surface with a spatula. Bake 42 to 45 minutes in preheated oven, until top is shiny and dry, and a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached. Remove from oven and let cool completely in pan on rack.
  • Lift out brownie from pan by foil ends; transter to cutting board. Cut lengthwise into four strips and crosswise into 8 pieces, making 32 brownies.

Questions & Replies

  1. Does the alcohol cook out? Didn't know if they were safe for kids.

  1. Lovely results, I used a bottle of Guinness stout. I was surprised how rich they tasted without being too sweet. Only change I'd make it to spray the aluminum foil with vegetable oil. Even when fully cooled these were hard to separate from the foil layer.

  2. Brownies had great depth of flavor although, they were VERY VERY heavy and dense. I was hoping for a lighter flakier brownie instead of a heavy cake texture.

  3. I was so bummed when I bought a 4 pack of expensive, highly recommended vanilla bean creme brulee stout only to discover I am clearly not fond of stout beer (I'm a wine drinker anyway, but I love creme brulee). I decided to take on a plan B for my purchase since I didn't care for it as a beverage. Long story short, I hoped the flavor would dissipate or compliment the chocolate & it did both, beautifully! These are moist, dense & delicious. For anyone having issues with sticking or making these the first time, use cooking spray & parchment paper, no issues whatsoever. I used all dark chocolate chips & they were great. I usually like a fudgier brownie, but these are a nice change. I probably baked them 45-49 minutes. Thanks for sharing. I will be making at least 2 more batches! Oh, I also enjoyed these with a glass of blackberry wine...tasted like a chocolate covered blackberry!

  4. We loved these and they are so fun to make! I added a few walnuts because I really like them and they turned out great. I will make these again!

  5. I used Young's Double Chocolate Stout in the recipe and served them with mint chocolate chip ice cream (like one of the pictures suggested.) WOW, they were AMAZING! Very easy and great for a party :)
