I think of this dish as Spanish since I use pimenton de la verda (Spanish smoked sweet paprika) in it. If you have never tasted this paprika before, treat yourself...it is not expensive.***for some reason the computer has the pimenton coming out as pimentos.....pimenton IS correct!

  1. Pre-heat oven to 300°F.
  2. Cut onions in half. Place cut side down in shallow baking dish. Don't overlap!
  3. Sprinkle with water and cover with foil.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes.
  5. Combine rest of ingredients.
  6. Turn onions over so cut side is up. Spoon 1/2 of mixture over onions; return to oven, uncovered, for another 15 minutes.
  7. Baste with remaining mixture and continue baking for 15 minutes or until fork-tender.
