- 1 1⁄2 - 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 2 onions, chopped, used separately
- 4 -6 garlic cloves, chopped, reserve half
- 28 ounces tomatoes
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 8 ounces canned corn, drain and rinse
- 19 ounces canned black beans, drain and rinse
- 19 ounces canned chick-peas, drain and rinse
- 1 1⁄2 cups ragu original pasta sauce
- 1 -2 tablespoon chili powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1⁄2 teaspoon coriander
- 1⁄2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt

TOPPINGS
- crushed multigrain tortilla chips
- shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- sour cream
- chopped fresh chili pepper (or small can chopped green chillis)
- chopped fresh cilantro
directions
- In a large skillet or dutch oven brown beef with 1 chopped onion and 1/2 chopped garlic. Drain off fat, add tomatoes, paste, brown sugar, corn, black beans, chick peas, and Ragu, heat over medium stirring occassionally until bubbly and piping hot.
- In a separate small, saute pan, over med-low, heat 1-2 tbsp olive oil, add remaining onion and garlic, saute until soft and clear. Add all spices, herbs and seasonings saute 2-3 minutes. Stir spice mixture into chilli, reduce heat to med-low and simmer at least an hour.
- Serve hot in bowls, top with any or all of the suggested toppings!
