Spice Cake With Caramel Frosting

This is from one of my all-time favorite cookbooks, The Best of Mennonite Fellowship Meals. I can't tell you how good this is! You just have to try it yourself. For those of you who don't have a sweet tooth like I do, try it without the frosting. It's still delicious!

This was super easy to put together and smelled lovely. We found it quite dry, though. The frosting was a must so it wasn't so dry. Nice flavor, just the texture that bothered me. Thanks for a great one to try, Whisper!

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. Mix all cake ingredients with a whisk until well blended.
  2. Pour batter into 9" x 13" pan.
  3. Bake at 325 degrees F for 35-40 minutes.
  4. Cool cake before frosting.
  5. To prepare frosting, melt margarine and brown sugar over low heat, stirring for 2 minutes.
  6. Add milk and bring to a boil.
  7. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  8. Slowly add powdered sugar, beating until smooth and creamy.
