  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • salt, to taste
  • 13 cup popcorn
  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • Heat oil and salt in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • Put 3 or 4 popcorn kernels in the oil and put on the lid.
  • When the kernels pop, dump the rest of the popcorn in the pan, remove from heat and count to 30.
  • Put back on the burner. The popcorn should start popping fairly quickly.
  • Keep the lid slightly ajar and jiggle the pan so the kernels do not burn.
  • Once the popping slows to several seconds between pops, remove from heat and dump into a bowl.
  • Place the butter in the hot pan until melted. Pour over the popcorn and mix well.
