This is a gorgeous recipe for French toast. The last time I made this we had a tradesman over trying to work out a pesky fault with our phone that had necessitated many callouts. This was the tradesman that fixed the problem ;-).

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 8 -10 slices of fruit bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 12 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated orange rind
  • 12 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

  1. Beat the eggs and then mix with the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Dip the bread in the French Toast batter and fry in melted butter until golden brown on both sides.

French toast is my favorite breakfast. John and I enjoyed this for brunch. Very filling. Made 1/2 the recipe. Used 2 eggs and 5 slices of bread. Being there is no butter in the ingredients I wanted to keep the nutrition facts close as possible so I used spray olive oil. Served with Recipe #436240.

Simply awesome French Toast--the oj, orange rind, and spices provide amazing flavor (while adding little or no fat!)!! I scaled the recipe down to 2 servings; used a multi-grain bread (Milton's), 2 smallish eggs, non-fat milk, a packed and slightly rounded 1/2 teaspoon of finely grated orange rind, and half of the quantity of both milk and oj. And, since we have three orange trees in our backyard, I was able to use a fresh orange for the oj and orange rind--which was great! I have a feeling this is going to become the only French Toast recipe I ever make! Thanks so much for sharing it Missy Wombat!!

Excellent recipe. We like to have breakfast for dinner in my house so this was perfect with maple syrup and fruit salad! The orange flavor was really clear, but not overpowering. And the spices played up the orange flavor perfectly. I just used whole wheat bread too. Will make again, thanks for sharing!
