Oly Bolen - Dutch New Years Donuts (Oliebollen)

"This is a traditional dutch donut that my mom always made growing up around New Years. They are best fresh and warm, but can be nuked in the microwave the next day. You won't be disappointed!!"

  • Take 2 cups of flour and thoroughly mix in sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Mix separately water, vanilla and eggs. Pour into flour mixture a bit at a time.
  • Stir in raisins.
  • Grease a big bowl, put dough in bowl and cover with a damp tea towel and plastic bag. Let rise for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Heat oil or deep fryer to 370 degrees F. Drop heaping tablespoons into 2 1/2 - 3 inches o oil. Cook until they have a light brown color to them.
  • Remove from oil and dip or sprinkle in icing sugar, and lay on paper-towel covered cookie sheets. Serve immediately!
  • Enjoy!
