A wonderful recipe from Suewho on She adds: "The secret ingredient is salt, which removes any bitterness. Don't be tempted to use reconstituted lemon juice or to add the juice until the sugar water is completely chilled!"


  1. In a pot combine water, sugar and salt. Bring to a boil and continue to boil for 2 minutes. Chill the sugar water for at least 60 minutes in the refrigerator.
  2. In a 2 quart pitcher mix cooled sugar water and lemon juice together. Pour over ice and serve.

This was a real treat. It was definitely not bitter and only slightly sweet. I used fresh squeezed lemon juice, which it took about 5 medium size lemons to get the right amount of juice. I served it over ice, with a slice of lemon for a little extra citrus pulp. Thanks, RavynLoony. Made for 2009 Fall Pick-A-Chef.
