1. 5 Stars WITH MODIFICATIONS --- I first made these from a German Chocolate cake mix box recipe years ago, accidentally threw away the recipe, had to wing it, and have modified it many times since. They are favorites of my grown kids. They are not for dieters! Modifications: 1) 325 degrees for 30 - 35 minutes; 2) 1 Cup butter (2 sticks) - melt in microwave (otherwise pan warps); 3) Gently even out cake mix with spoon. Press German Chocolate cake mix gently with flat bottom glass to make crust more firm; 4) Keep layers 1/2 inch or so away from edge of pan; 5) Chocolate chips (same as original recipe, 12 oz. semi-sweet) on top of cake mix (evenly); 6) Entire small bag of miniature marshmallows (10.5 oz, approx 6 Cups) on top of chocolate chips; 7) 3 Cups Cheerios on top of marshmallows; 8) Stir condensed milk from bottom of can for consistency (I use fat free, which is a bit of a joke); 9) Drizzle a THIN stream of condensed milk around inside perimeter of pan, as well as an even drizzle over all; 10) Bake till brown and caramelized. Watch it. (They will look very different when cool.) Cool 5 or so minutes. Ease bars away from edge with table knife. Wait 10 or so more minutes. Saw with a table knife into small squares. Cool entirely. Cut again; 11) I have not tried using parchment lining, but could be useful....We call them "Chocolate Gooey Bars"...Chef MB - I guarantee you will love this version!

 2. I followed the instructions to the letter, but this turned out terribly. The cake mix on the bottom stayed dry, and the marshmallows on top were burning before 20 mins were up. And my oven has been working fine on everything else I've baked, so I don't think the temp is off.

Updated: 1/9/09 I am a working mother of 3 children. The oldest is 3 soon to be 4, and the twins are now 19 months old. It is a very busy house so I am always looking for easy, kid friendly receipes to make for dinner. Dinner is usually whatever I can whip up in 15 minutes after we pick up the kids from daycare. All of the kids are usually hungry when they get home, which does not leave me a lot of time to make dinner. Dinner is also tricky since my husband will not eat pasta or rice. He does not like new foods. I sometimes just make dinner for the kids and myself and leave him to fend for himself since he is so picky. Also I am not a premium member so I can not zmail. Create your own visitor map!
