This is a very good chocolate cake with the flavor of mocha. I got the recipe from Taste of Home.

Directions

  1. In large mixing bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  2. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with coffee and sour cream.
  3. Pour into three greased and floured 9-inch round baking pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  4. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until fluffy.
  6. Beat in the chocolate, coffee and vanilla until blended. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar. Spread between layers and over top and sides of cake.
  7. Cover and refrigerate until serving.

This is a great mocha cake. I used Highlander Grog for my coffee, which lent flavors of hazelnut and vanilla. I love that the recipe uses cooled coffee, and not instant coffee granules, as I never have that nasty stuff around anyways. I also replaced one of the tsps of vanilla with almond extract, which was great. It's like my favorite cup of coffee with my cake. Loved it and will make often. I can't believe no one has made this for so long! Made and Reviewed for Bargain Basement tag. Thanks! :)
