  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • In large bowl, combine all ingredients except last 1/4 cup sugar; blend well.
  • (Mixture will be crumbly.) Firmly press into 1-inch balls; roll in 1/4 cup sugar.
  • Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350°F for 9 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool a minute or so before removing from cookie sheets.

  1. This is one of my all time favorite cookie recipes. I once 'lost' it and was so sad. I looked online and at that time could not find it. One thing different that I do is add lemon juice. This does make the cookie spread out more and gives it a more lemony taste. I also used mashed potato buds because that was what I had at the time. None of these small changes hurt the taste of the cookies. A very unique cookie.

I live in the San Francisco area and love it here. I discovered Recipezaar (then Food.com..Genius Kitchen) in 2001 and have been so happy to have my favorite recipes stored safely here. I am mother to 7 and grandmother to 7. I love to knit, smock, sew, etc., but my favorite hobby of the moment is traditional rug hooking. This is a sample of what I do.? It's called "November".? I dyed most of the wool myself. It is made from wool flannel, cut into strips a little less than 1/4" and then worked into a linen backing. This is my 3rd rug.
