Hot and Spicy Peanuts

"Wow! These peanuts are addicting! They are easy to make and would be great for a party. Make sure to drain very well after cooking or they will be greasy. The recipe comes from the Betty Crocker Christmas cookbook."

ingredients

  • 9.85 ml vegetable oil
  • 473.18 ml unsalted peanuts
  • 9.85 ml chili powder
  • 1.23 ml ground red pepper (cayenne)
  • 2.46 ml garlic salt, use more if you like

directions

  • In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Stir in the peanuts, chili powder, and red pepper.
  • Cook and stir for 2 minutes or until peanuts are warm. Drain well on paper towels.
  • Sprinkle garlic salt over peanuts and toss to combine. Cool completely.
  • May be stored in a tightly covered container at room temperature.

  2. I cannot honestly understand why the person making comment #4 would give them to a small child. And if they are 4 years old, they are hardly a "baby" anymore. But I digress on such stupidity. This is an easy, awesome recipe.
     
  3. I love the spices in the snack. Yes, they are very addicting!! Unfortunately I didn't have peanuts so I used almonds. YUMMY!! Made for Fall PAC 2011.
     
  4. This is the second recipe I have tried to create spicy peanuts. It is PERFECTION! We have 90,000 Scoville units cayenne, and with 2 teaspoons, my bf and I may be the only ones who can eat them. More for us!!
     
  5. I am a 2 for $1 spicy peanut king at the gas station. Not anymore, this is perfect. Key point! Only warm the peanuts up. Not even 2 minute for me. I buy the cans from the dollar store and make the in to pure goodness. Thanks for the recipe!

Tweaks

  1. Add 1 tsp coarse black pepper I heat with only 1/2 oil and oil spray,add the peanuts to pan,hot keep 'em moving. Mix spices together before sprinkling over hot peanuts. Gotta keep 'em moving. On the paper towel sprinkle garlic powder while still hot I also sprinkle a bit more cayenne.... Easy though Then roll em around in the paper towel. Kinda mushy while still hot gotta cool
