Hawaiian Korean Kal Bi Marinade

Total Time
Prep 20 mins

Original recipe given to me by Hawaiians. Best for grilling pork or beef ribs and even chicken, just stick to 4-5 pounds. Can be halved for smaller amounts of meat or doubled for feeding a crowd. Better than the old red barbecue sauce!

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Blend all ingredients in a large bowl until sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Dump over meat placed in a long dish covered tightly with plastic wrap or place into ziplock bag(s).
  3. Marinate overnight (or for two days).
  4. Turn meat 3-4 times each day.
  5. Remove from marinade when ready to cook.
  6. Discard marinade.
  7. Grill over low to medium coals or bake in the oven at 325F until cooked through.
  8. Cooking times will vary based on grill/oven heat and type of meat.

made this for tonight's dinner. Husband loved it. I added some fresh ginger and some red pepper flakes.

Excellent on babybacks! Great tasting and the flavor goes all the way through the meat!

This one really surprised me. When I made the marinade yesterday, it had a STRONG sesame oil scent, so I made my fiance something else for supper tonight (he really doesn't like sesame oil). After marinating all night, the strength of the oil faded, and this was fantastic. Needless to say, he ate this instead!! This would also be a good marinade on other meats( chicken, steak, etc.) Thanks so much!! Made for Unrated Asian Tag 2009.
