Frosted Brownies or Texas Brownies

"This makes a huge cookie sheetful of wonderful brownies or better yet, a cross between a brownie and a cake. These will be enough to bring to a gathering and everyone will love them."

ingredients

• CAKE

• 118.29 ml butter
• 118.29 ml shortening
• 236.59 ml strong brewed coffee
• 59.14 ml dark unsweetened cocoa
• 118.29 ml buttermilk
• 2 eggs
• 4.92 ml baking soda
• 4.92 ml vanilla
• 473.18 ml flour
• 473.18 ml sugar

• FROSTING

• 118.29 ml butter
• 33.27 ml dark cocoa
• 59.14 ml milk
• 828.06 ml confectioners' sugar
• 4.92 ml vanilla

directions

1. In a large bowl combine flour and sugar.
2. In a large saucepan combine butter, shortening, cocoa, and coffee.
3. Mix well and heat to boiling.
4. Pour into the flour and sugar; mix well.
5. Add the buttermilk, baking soda, eggs, and vanilla.
6. Mix well.
7. Pour into a well-greased 11x17 1/2 cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or till done.
8. While brownies bake make the frosting.
9. In a large saucepan combine the butter, cocoa, and milk; heat to boiling and mix well.
10. Mix in the confectioners sugar and vanilla and mix till smooth.
11. Pour warm frosting over the brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven.
12. Cool; cut into 48 bars.

I baked mine at 325 for 30 minutes, as we like our brownies chewy rather than cakelike. It worked great and they were just the way we all like them. The subtle coffee flavor was awesome, and with the addition of 1 c. walnuts we were happy campers in this house! From one Main-e-ack to another, Thank you!

For a few years, I baked these Texas Brownies! They were delightful & delectable, yum! At a retirement party once, I was honourably asked to make their cake ... to which I agreed & made 2 pans of these T. Brownies, which became my cake for them! This recipe is so good!
