directions

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Add the milk, eggs, sugar, butter and salt; beat until smooth.
  • Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough (do not knead).
  • Start with 5 cups flour, although you may need to use 5 1/2 or so, until dough is not sticky.
  • Place in a greased bowl turning once to grease top.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • In an electric skillet, heat oil to 375°. Drop tablespoonfuls of dough, a few at a time, into hot oil. Fry for 1-1/2 to 2 minutes on each side or until deep golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  • Immediately roll warm doughnuts in sugar and cinnamon mixture, or serve with syrup.

  2. This was my 1st time to make these and they turned out just OK. I'll make them again but will add another 1/2 cup of flour to thicken the mix. With this recipe as it is now, when the batter (not dough) was poured into the hot veggie oil it "fractured" and the result was a lot of wasted batter. I feel that if I thicken the mixture next time, they'll be better and more enjoyable. I'll re-rate them then too.
