- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon oregano
- 1⁄4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can green beans
- 2 cups prepared mashed potatoes (instant works just fine)
- 1⁄2 - 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- paprika
directions
- Brown the meat with the onions.
- Drain.
- Add seasonings and green beans.
- Spray a 2 qt casserole dish with Pam.
- Spoon meat mixture into bottom of dish.
- Spread mashed potatoes over meat.
- Sprinkle cheese over potatoes.
- Lightly sprinkle paprika over cheese.
- Bake uncovered in preheated 350 oven for 25-30 minutes until cheese is melted and top of casserole is slightly puffed.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.

This is very similar to a Shepard's Pie recipe we've used for years. I make my ground beef with onions and oregano. In a bundt pan I put the meat, then a 15oz can of tomato sauce, a can of drained green beans, mashed potatoes (I find fake work better than homemade in this case), and lots of cheese. Same cook temp and time.

Really tasty and simple to put together! I made two of these in one night, one for my family and one for a friend who just had a baby. I think this is a great dish to throw together when you need to take a meal to someone. I left out the onions (personal preference) but added some onion powder and dried chopped onions for flavor. We will be using this recipe a lot in my house!
