Easy Iraqi Green Beans With Meat

"This recipe, slightly adapted, is from "Iraqi Family Cookbook from Mosul to America." You can also make this vegetarian without the meat, just fry the onions first in olive oil and then add the green beans, tomato sauce, salt and spices along with one cup water, then simmer for 20 minutes. The Arabic spice mixture (baharat/bahara) recipe follows at the end of the recipe."

  1. I think I would give this 4 1/2 stars as I remember it being good but not special but maybe it's because we don't like green beans. Here is what I did, I first simmered bone in lamb shoulder in water with 2 small black noomi Basra (dried lime, loomi) pierced with a knife skimming as required to use stock for some water in the sauce and to cook rice in with salt. Then did step 1. After I cooked the onion until transparent and sauted the fresh green beans separately in some more oil with salt. I added step 4 to the onions. Then poured the sauce over the lamb in a oven pan and put it in a 325 oven for 1 1/2 then added the basically cooked green beans and left it another 25 minutes until tender.
