Dicks' Velvet Hammer

"This was so good. Original recipe comes from Peggy Vdouj from our community cookbook for Patrick Cox, the teenager that died of a heart attack. I love Brandy so you might want to start with 1/4 cup but I used 1/2."

  1. Definitely a delicious and velvety smooth drink, Nimz. We really enjoyed sipping on this wonderful cocktail. It was refreshing and had a wonderful kick from the brandy and crème de cacao that we both really enjoyed. Made for the Spring 2014 Pick-A-Chef event.

  2. This was a wonderful drink, I made this for my dessert and I know it says it serves two but tonight it only served one! Thanks for a great recipe. Made for Potluck Tag.

  3. DH and I had this for dessert last night and we really loved it, even though we seldom have ice cream. DH said he'd like to try it with a teaspoon of malt added, so I might do that and report back (DH was a soda jerk in high school). Made for Potluck Tag game.

  4. I absolutely loved the hint of orange flavor that the Cointreau gave this drink. I downsized it to one drink and should have added more ice cream. I was closer to the 1 cup than 1 1/2. It was a little stronger than I normally prefer, but with more ice cream I'm sure it would be fine. If you like ice cream drinks, give this one a try.

  5. If I was really only supposed to add enough ice cream for one person it tastes way to much like alcohol. I initially blended the alcohol with 2 cups ice cream (thinking that the recipe might not be intended for a 7 cup blender), but it was way strong so I added another cup and tasted it again and it kept being to strong so I kept adding more ice cream. I ran out of ice cream before it filled the blender. I ended up putting a whole 1 3/4 qt container into it. By then it tasted pretty good. I only had cherry brandy so it ended up tasting like a chocolate covered cherry milkshake with a hint of orange. I think it needs something like vodka to cut the sweetness a little though. Overall pretty good, but at a couple thousand calories and 7 shots of alcohol I think it serves more like 6 (if I did it right), so it would be a nice party drink. Thanks for posting.

I was one of the original members of Recipezaar that was truly a community of individuals that enjoyed each other in forums and chat rooms. I've been a member of this site since 2003. Made some tremendous friends that I still think of often. I'll continue coming here because my recipes are here and so many more that I tried over the years as a member. It's just a tad boring now and just another recipe site like all the rest. Sad.
