    Directions:

      Fry onions and meat in melted shortening, adding 1 tsp pepper, until brown.

      Add garlic.

      Add string beans, tomato paste, and cover with water to 1 inch over level of beans.

      Stew for 2 hours.

      Serve over rice.

      Variation: different green vegetables can be used instead. Dad usually subbed peas.
