This is my baked bean recipe for BBQ competitions - I haven't won, YET, but these have fared well! Since you have to prepare the beans "onsite" - this is a stovetop recipe! If the beans are too sweet, add a couple dashes of hot pepper sauce - I use my own barbecue sauce (posted under "fat cat spicy sauce") so, they are usually pretty spicy. Also, I used Bush's Pinto and Red beans and Progresso Black beans.

  1. Drain beans.
  2. In a dutch oven fry bacon till crisp, do not drain grease, and add 2 tbsp olive oil.
  3. Add onion, and soften (about 5 minutes).
  4. Add garlic.
  5. Add drained beans and all other ingredients.
  6. Simmer 2 hours at least before serving (1 hour covered, 1 hour uncovered).
