  1. This was the nastiest frosting ever. It was grainy and it didnt even have a good flavor. I wish the instructions were better.... will not be using that again.. wouldnt even put it on the cake..

  2. The first time mine was grainy too. The second time, I used powdered sugar instead and it turned out just like fudge! Wonderful.

  3. Yes its grainy, but it has a delicious flavour. One tip though, spread this on your cake as soon as it has thickened and while it is still hot. As soon as it hits the cake it will start to harden so you need to work quickly!

  4. I am extremely happy with this recipe, especially considering it doesn't call for eggs or milk. I halved the recipe and it was just enough for 12 cupcakes (with extra frosting on each). I boiled the mixture about 2 minutes rather than one. While the result was a big grainy, I like it that way. I don't think I've ever had frosting that calls for granulated sugar be perfectly smooth -- I think it's just a more old-fashioned taste, that I personally enjoy.

  5. Excellent easy to make frosting. I used it for Recipe #189608, an excellent cake.

Most of my recipes are dairy free since I discovered many years ago that I am lactose intolerant. While I have had to give up some much-loved recipes, we have discovered that most can be modified to accommodate the changes to our diet. Most of my recipes say dairy free but there are a few from my childhood that may have dairy! I also have an intolerance to MSG so we spend a lot of time reading labels. Usually, it is just easier to cook from scratch, so we don't use many pre-made foods from the grocery store.</p> I like recipes I can make with minimal ingredients, real food I have in my kitchen, that are also easy to make!
