"A recipe from one of my mothers old handwritten cookbooks. A great Australian tradition!"

 

• Ready In: 35mins
• Ingredients: 7
• Serves: 14-16

ingredients

• 1 egg
• 1 cup self raising flour
• 1⁄2 cup walnuts
• 4 ounces melted butter
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup chopped dates
• 1 pinch salt

directions

1. Mix all ingredients together well and put into shallow slice tin, bake in a moderate oven at 375 deg. for 20 minutes.
2. When cold cut slice into squares.

This is a slice from my childhood so I just had to make it. It was easy to do and delicious to eat. I doubled the recipe so just had to cook it a bit longer.

I always thought a 'slice' was like a quick bread. I googled 'slice tin' & it looks to me like a brownie pan. This is a really rich recipe ~ everybody liked it & it was easy to make! Made for Aussie Swap 7/08.
