Beijinho De Coco (Brazilian Coconut Balls)

This is a cousin of the chocolate drop, brigadeiro, instead of chocolate there is coconut. This is a staple at any Brazilian child's birthday party.

  1. Put all the ingredients in a heavy saucepan over medium heat and mix constantly with a wooden spoon (about 15 minutes).
  2. When mixture begins to thicken and begin to loosen from the bottom of the pan when you scrap it with the wooden spoon you know the mixture has completed the cooking cycle.
  3. Remove from heat and transfer to a greased plate and cool for 15 minutes. Grease your hand very well and roll into 1 inch balls. Drop balls into a plate full of sugar and completely cover the ball.
  4. These balls are usually served on miniature paper liners.

You got it correctly! Also try what "Branquinhos" (Little Whites?), the opposite of "Negrinhos" (Little Negroes), made without coconut. When ready roll them in fine sugar. They will get a suttle, very fine crust around them, to die for! Oh, soooooo many childhood memories... :-)

Made for Photo Tag 08. These are so simple and SO yummy! Seriously easy but be careful once that mixture is bubbling its dangerously hot so don't splash yourself with it.Keep it on a slow bubble, and don't stop stirring! LOL
