This recipe came from a dear friend who is probably the most awesome cook I've ever known. These are the only baked beans that my husband and daughter will eat.
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup celery, minced
- 1 cup onion, minced
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 4 tablespoons molasses
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 (28 ounce) cansbush's original baked beans
- Saute celery and onions in a little margarine until soft and golden. Add beef and cook until it loses it's pink color. Drain well. Add tomato paste, molasses a nd brown sugar. Remove from heat and stir in beans. Put in casserole and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, stirring after 30 minutes. You can also put these in a crock pot for a couple of hours.
This is a great way to change up the ordinary taste of baked beans. We really liked the hamburger in this and thought the seasonings were perfect. I served it with Cajun Salmon and steamed rice. Thanks for sharing. Made for PAC Fall 2011.
Made your recipe as given, & we thoroughly enjoyed these baked beans! Although I make something kind of similar, I did like the addition of the ground beef & the celery! Served 'em warm the first time around, & one thing I do like about these is that their just as good served cold! Thanks for the great recipe! [Made & reviewed in New Kids on the Block recipe tag]
