- 1 lb ground beef
- 1⁄4 cup olive oil
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves chopped garlic
- 1 (20 ounce) can whole tomatoes
- 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon basil
- 1 bay leaf
- 1⁄2 teaspoon oregano
- 1 lb ricotta cheese
- 1 lb mozzarella cheese
- 1⁄2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1⁄2 lb lasagna noodle (9 pieces)
directions
- Brown ground beef. Drain.
- In olive oil cook onion till transparent. Add garlic to onion and just heat through.
- In a dutch oven add whole tomatoes (break into pieces), tomato paste, onion and garlic, ground beef, salt, pepper, basil, bay leaf and oregano. Simmer 1 hour until sauce thickens. Remove bay leaf.
- Cook lasagna noodles. Drain and rinse.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease 13 x 9 pan with olive oil.
- Layer as follows:.
- on bottom place one layer of noodles,.
- Spread 1/2 ricotta cheese.
- 1/3 of sauce.
- 1/2 of mozzarella cheese.
- 1/3 of parmesean cheese.
- Repeat.
- Layer of noodles.
- 1/3 of sauce.
- 1/3 of parmesean.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
- Stand 10 minutes at room temp before cutting.
