- 1 egg 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1 cup hot water
- 2 1⁄2 cups flour, ixcing sugar for sprinkling

LEMON SAUCE
- 1⁄2 cup butter, softened
- 1⁄2 cup granulated sugar
- 1⁄2 tablespoon brandy (optional)
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
- 1⁄2 cup boiling water
- 1 lemon, juice of
- 1⁄2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
- 1⁄8 teaspoon ground cloves
directions
- In a large bowl, combine egg, sugar, sortening, molasses, salt, baking soda and ginger.
- When thoroughly blended, add hot water; stir, then add flour. Pour into 9x9-inch baking dish. Bake at 350F for 45 minutes, or unti la toothpick inserted in the center comes our clean.
- Cool and sprinkle with icing sugar.
- LEMON SAUCE: Cream butter and sugar together; blend in brandy if using. Beat in egg and lemon rind.
- Transfer mixrture to top of double boiler. Gradually add boiling water to mixture, stirring constantly.
- Heat 7-8 minutes. Stir in lemon juice and spices. Serve hot, makes 2 cups.

<br>I guess the dish that I am famous for is my Christmas ham - my family all comes home for Christmas, and if i don't have my ham they are dissapointed, and my grandson wants the pistachio squares!!! so I guess that is the dishes that I'm famous for.
