Stuffed Dates

Stuffed Dates created by Chef PotPie

I found this recipe looking for Middle Eastern recipes for ZWT6 and realized that as far back as I can remember this was exactly the way my mom and paternal grandmother made stuffed dates for the holidays using our Louisiana pecans. So very good considering its simplicity.

My mother also made up this recipe in the 1960's. I like the idea of trying them with pecans. My mother always used almonds. I have also made them by first briefly soaking the dates in rum before stuffing them.

I remember my mom making these for holidays back in the 1950's when I was very young. She stuffed the dates with whole walnuts or walnut halves and rolled them in granulated sugar, and arranged them on a cut-glass plate. This just brought back memories.

Made for ZWT6 & my bet is it would be very hard to find a recipe easier than this little sweet treat. Like another reviewer, I stuffed the dates w/slivered almonds & suspect I will prefer that over the whole almonds after I have tried both. Being such an easy-fix makes them ideal as a sml treat to accompany coffee or tea for unexpected guests or just to spoil yourself. They are very sweet as written, but that is part of their beauty. You can eat them w/o the powdered sugar to spoil yourself or dress them up for guests (or a holiday table) w/the powdered sugar. I opted to spoil myself, so thx for sharing this recipe w/us.

Healthy without the sugar!! I toasted blanched almonds in a dry pan and stuffed an extremely sweet type of Khaleeji dates, the other good reason I did not add the powdered sugar. Made for ZWT6, NA*ME regions, for my team, The Ya Ya Cookerhood.
