ingredients
- 8 eggs
- 1⁄4 - 1⁄2 cup milk (optional)
- 8 slices Texas toast thick bread or 8 slices bread
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 8 8 tablespoons strawberry jam or 8 tablespoons powdered sugar, for serving
directions
- In a large, shallow bowl crack eggs and add milk as desired to create enough egg mixture to saturate 8 pieces of texas toast. Whip the mixture with a fork until combined.
- Heat a griddle or frying pan to medium high heat.
- Soak 1 or 2 pieces of toast fully with egg mixture, flipping in the bowl to fully saturate each piece.
- Meanwhile melt approx 1 tsp of butter in the spot of each piece of toast, as soon as it melts place piece of toast in the spot.
- Watch toast carefully and when the down side is getting brown, flip the toast to cook opposite side, it shouldn't take very long if your pan is hot.
- Once both pieces are fully cooked and browned transfer to a plate and serve, two pieces topped with about a tbsp of soft butter, serve with syrup or jam as desired, I like mine with just the butter.
- Repeat steps 3 on until all toast is cooked.

These were yummy! Assembly was quick and easy. I used a griddle, so cooking time was probably cut in half. I did use 1/2 c milk, and I had enough liquid for the entire loaf of bread - 16 slices! We'll have some leftovers for busy school mornings. I added a smidge of vanilla (needed to use it up) and several shakes of cinnamon to the liquid mixture before adding the bread. I can't say it made a huge improvement because this was delicious no matter what. I'd recommend these to anyone who wants a quick French toast recipe that works...I've never made French toast with any success before. Thank you!
