Oh my. I was barbecuing a whole chicken and looking for something different and stumbled on this. I thought it would go w/ a rub I had left over from last year (cumin, ginger, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne and chili powder -- and no sugars). So I seasoned the chicken, let is sit overnight in the fridge, and smoked it over applewood at about 250 for two hours. Then I moved the bird to direct heat and seared two "layers" of this sauce... delicious. I've used this rub before with standard BBQ sauce, It's good, but this was GREAT. This will become my signature summer dish.
