Streusel Mixture
- 1 1⁄3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1⁄2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened

Muffins
- 2⁄3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons nutmeg
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 2⁄3 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
directions
- heat oven to 400*F.
- in large bowl combine 1 1/3 cup flour and brown sugar, cut in butter until crumbly. reserve 1/2 cup for streusel topping. in same bowl add all muffin ingredients to streusel mixture, stir just until moistened.
- spoon into greased "12" muffin pan.
- sprinkle with reserved streusel mixture.
- bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until lightly browned.
- let stand 5 minutes, and remove from pan.
