- 3 cups cake flour
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 3⁄4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 3⁄4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2⁄3 cup shortening
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 1⁄2 cups buttermilk
- 1⁄2 cup nuts, chopped
directions
- Sift all dry ingredients together. Cream the shortening and add the sugars gradually, cream them well.
- Add eggs one at a time and beat mixture well after each addition.
- Add the sifted dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk.
- Add the nuts with the final addition of dry ingredients.
- Pour batter into 2 greased paper-lined 9" round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
