Italian Tomato Rolls

"I LOVE trying differant flavor bread and rolls so when I found this in Taste of Home knew I had to try it. Tender chewy rolls with pizza sauce and basil for extra excitement. Prep time does not include rising."

  1. Haven't tried these yet but when I do I think, from the comments of the reviewers, I will add some of King Arthur's Pizza dough favor (item # 3799). That might be just what that little extra these rolls need.

  2. I grabbed this recipe because I had some pizza sauce to use up. I used half whole-wheat flour and half bread flour, and the texture is quite good, but it needs a little something more than the basil for excitement. Maybe some red pepper flakes or some grated Parmesan?

  3. I too get the TOH and like you had to try this recipe. Made it as written the first time then the "light bulb" went off. Made it again a few days later but this time I enclosed a piece of pepperoni and a chunk of mozzarella within the dough ball, (I can never leave anything alone). and set in pan to rise. Had all four of the grand kids lined up waiting for "pizza" to come out of the oven. not to shabby but needs a little work. Maybe a bit of extra pizza sauce in with the stuffing, maybe an olive?
