  • Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well until creamy. Add flour, salt, and soda, which has been sifted together. Then add oatmeal and nuts. This makes a very stiff dough. Can refrigerate to stiffen dough a bit. Drop by teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for about 10 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool 5 minutes on sheet and remove to a wire rack for complete cooling. Store in a tight tin.
